‘Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug’ by Nelson Canlas is heading to Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy

“Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug,” the first children's book written by Nelson Canlas, is going to Italy for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair!
The GMA Integrated News showbiz reporter and anchor shared the good news through an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“We couldn’t be prouder—our panganay, Migoy, is flying to Italy for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, carrying with him not just a story, but a piece of our nation’s heart,” Canlas wrote in his post.
“This special hardbound edition joins the curated Philippine Children’s Book Collection, standing tall among the world’s best. Mabuhay ang kuwentong Pilipino!” he added.
“Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug" promotes the rich heritage of the Tausug people from Mindanao.
The book follows the story of Migoy's daily life in Jolo, Sulu and his love for Tausug dishes.
According to Canlas, the character Migoy was inspired by the personality and childhood experience of his partner, Chef Miguel Cabel Moreno, the co-founder and chef of Palm Grill and a Jolo, Sulu Native.
The book is written in three languages: Tagalog, English, and Tausug. It is available in select Fully Booked branches nationwide and on Lazada for P425.
The Bologna Children’s Book Fair will run from March 31 to April 3, 2025.
