'Shrek The Musical' is coming to Manila this 2025; auditions open

Be ready to journey to a land Far, Far Away — where ogres find love, donkeys crack jokes, and fairytale misfits steal the show!

For this year's holiday season, "Shrek The Musical" will take over in the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Newport World Resorts from October to December 2025.

With larger-than-life characters, toe-tapping music, and a whole lot of heart, this production by Full House Theater Company promises a fun-filled spectacle for the whole family.

Under the direction of Michael Williams, with musical staging and choreography by Dexter Santos and music direction by Rony Fortich, "Shrek The Musical" brings to life the beloved characters from William Steig’s book "Shrek" and the DreamWorks Animation film that charmed audiences worldwide.

Originally hitting Broadway in 2008, the musical—featuring music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire—earned eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and won Best Costume Design of a Musical.

To all dreamers, singers, and performers — this might just be your fairy tale moment. The search for the most talented fairytale misfits is on!

Open auditions for all adult roles take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, in Meeting Room 1, 3F, Hilton Manila. Registration opens at 9 a.m., while auditions start at 1 p.m.

The production is on the lookout for fearless performers to bring these beloved characters to life:

• Shrek – The big, green, grumpy but lovable ogre with a heart of gold
• Princess Fiona – The fierce, funny princess with a not-so-ordinary secret
• Donkey – The fast-talking, fun-loving best friend everyone wishes they had
• Lord Farquaad – The hilariously tiny yet power-hungry ruler of Duloc

Other roles include the fire-breathing Dragon, the sharp-witted Gingy, the wooden wonder Pinocchio, the mighty Big Bad Wolf, and an ensemble of fairytale creatures, knights, and guards. Strong vocal ability is required for all roles, with select roles needing dance skills.

Audition checklist

• 32 bars of a song from your favorite musical (prepare a minus-one track for playback)
• A latest Curriculum Vitae
• A 3R-sized headshot
• A full-body shot
• A completed registration form

Rehearsals and show dates

Once cast, performers will begin rehearsals on August 18.
