National Artist Kidlat Tahimik is Vogue Man PH's February cover star

Renowned filmmaker and National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik is the cover star for the February issue of Vogue Man Philippines.
The artist posed with his indio-genius sculpture of Jose Rizal for the magazine's culture issue, which is a celebration of Philippine arts and community. This year's issue highlights the Cordilleras, where Kidlat is based.
For his cover story, Kidlat invited Vogue into his Baguio home where he and his wife, German academic and writer Katrin De Guia, live. Kidlat described their home as a product of "jamming with the cosmos."
Kidlat and Katrin talked about "their shared vision of indigenous wisdom from over 50 years of partnership." They also discussed the idea of "sariling dwende," or one's inner spirit who is used as a guide toward truth and knowledge, and freed from colonialism.
Born Eric Oteyza de Guia and often called Tatay Kidlat, Kidlat Tahimik is best known for directing the films "Perfumed Nightmare," "Turumba," and "Balikbayan #1: Memories of Overdevelopment Redux III," among many others.
Kidlat's artistry also goes beyond filmmaking, as he also delves into photography and installation art. His historical exhibit, "Magallanes, Marilyn, Mickey and fray Damaso. 500 years of Rockstar Conquerors," was first unveiled at the Palacio de Cristal in Madrid, Spain before opening in the Philippines in 2022.
