'A Chorus Line' musical is coming to the Philippines in March 2026

Heads up, theater fans!

Theatre Group Asia (TGA) announced that the hit Broadway musical, "A Chorus Line," is set to hold a Philippine staging in March 2026.

The group, which was behind the wordless play "Request sa Radyo" starring Lea Salonga and Dolly De Leon, will also stage the Stephen Sondheim musical, "Into The Woods," in August this year.

Per co-producers John and Johanna Echauz via a press release, "A Chorus Line" and "Into the Woods" will feature a lineup comprising Philippine-based artists and international talents of Filipino heritage from abroad.

"A Chorus Line," created by Michael Bennett, follows the story of 17 performers as they go through a competitive audition process in hopes of earning one of the eight spots in an unnamed Broadway musical.

The meta-musical sheds light on the struggles and hopes that the "unsung heroes" of theater experience and is known for reinventing Broadway.

Tony Award-winning production designer Clint Ramos, for his part, shared that they are trying to discover the different ways of being Filipino and "A Chorus Line" is a representation of this.

"When you see a chorus, you see one unit. But upon closer inspection, we get to see individual human beings and their respective complexities," said Ramos in the press release. "The material speaks to the time that we are in, and how we easily write people off. 'A Chorus Line' is a gift that way."
