Remastered 'Jose Rizal' is now streaming on Netflix Philippines

“Jose Rizal,” the 1998 historical film produced by GMA Pictures, is now available for streaming on Netflix Philippines.

The digitally restored and remastered version arrived on the streaming platform in time for Rizal Day on December 30.

Helmed by the late director Marilou Diaz-Abaya and written by Ricky Lee, the three-hour epic stars Cesar Montano as the title role.

It was the most-awarded film during the 1998 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), winning 17 out of the 18 awards that year, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, and Best Director.

The restoration of “Jose Rizal” was done by Central Digital Lab and GMA Post Production, as part of GMA Pictures’ tribute to Philippine cinema. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
