Filipino hat maker Harvy Santos is the designer behind iconic ‘Wicked’ hats
Filipino hat maker Harvy Santos is among the artists who helped bring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s film, “Wicked,” to life!
Harvy served as the senior milliner for the Hollywood musical film. Originally from the Philippines, he started his career in Hong Kong as a ballet dancer.
“All of the money that I got from dancing, every payday I would buy myself books on garment construction and costume design,” he shared on his “My Universal Story” video.
According to a press release from Universal Pictures Philippines, Santos studied millinery at Kensington and Chelsea colleges.
His award-winning hats have been featured in magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and more.
“Every day, I’m part of what I have accomplished, and knowing the fact that you are contributing on an epic film, that’s very exhilarating,” Harvy said.
“Wicked” premiered in Philippine cinemas on November 20.
Directed by Jon Chu, the movie is the first part of Universal's film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. The film follows the Good Witch Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba in their self-discovery journey in Shiz University.
Aside from Ariana and Cynthia, the "Wicked" cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldbum as the Wizard, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond.
