Ricky Lee on 'Lost Sabungeros': 'It is something relatable'
Ricky Lee has nothing but good words for GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures’s first ever documentary film “Lost Sabungeros.”
As seen in a short clip shared by GMA Public Affairs on social media, the National Artist for Film and Broadcast praised director Bryan Brazil for creating such an effective and powerful documentary.
“Gusto kong sabihin na maganda siya pero parang pangit pakinggan na sabihing 'maganda' ang isang pelikulang nagawa niya effectively and powerfully ang isang napakapangit na pangyayari,” Lee said.
“Pero maganda ‘yung pelikula,” he added.
The award-winning Filipino screenwriter and journalist also encouraged the public to watch “Lost Sabungeros” as it delivers a very relatable message to the audience.
“Dapat nating panoorin kasi 'yung pagkakalahad ng pelikula sa akin napakapersonal. Hindi siya something abstract. [It] is something relatable. Sana panoorin nating lahat,” he said.
After a canceled premiere at the Cinemalaya in August, “Lost Sabungeros” finally premiered on the big screen at the QCinema International Film Festival on November 9.
It also had a screening on November 10 and 12 at the Gateway Mall in Quezon City.
The documentary delves into the disappearances of over 30 sabungeros or cockfighters who have been missing since 2021. Its production team took more than two years to create the documentary despite the threats against their lives. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA Integrated News
