In 'Six the Musical,' Henry VIII's queens take back their voices like 21st century pop stars

In 'Six the Musical,' Henry VIII's queens take back their voices like 21st century pop stars

History buffs would be familiar with the characters of "Six the Musical": the six wives of English king Henry VIII, whose tragic fates became known by the famous rhyme "Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived."

But the musical dares to reimagine these women as full human beings – inspired by 21st century pop stars, Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr come alive in this award-winning show, which is currently on a limited run in The Theatre at Solaire.

Here are six reasons why you should watch "Six the Musical."

1. Get to know her-story

"Six" actually started as a college project that turned into an international sensation. The creators, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, wrote the book, music, and lyrics together while studying at Cambridge University.

In 2017, Toby and Lucy thought of providing a different perspective on the six queens that separate their status as wives. Since history is often told by men, Toby and Lucy came up with an aim to tell the stories of the queens uniquely and show that their experiences are still parallels to be found in the female experience, even after 500 years.

2. Immerse yourself in the powerful vocals of the Six

The musical may have been staged various times, but one thing is for sure: you will never be disappointed. The queens, Billie Kerr (Catherine of Aragon), Yna Tresvalles (Anne Boleyn), Liberty Stottor (Jane Seymour), Hannah Victoria (Anne of Cleves), Lizzie Emery (Katherine Howard), and Eloise Lord (Catherine Parr) beautifully embody and portray their roles with humor and chemistry on stage.

From singing their iconic individual songs to group performances, plus the dancing with smooth choreography, it is indeed a pop concert treat for everyone to enjoy.

3. A great way to celebrate feminism and empowerment

On "Six," we celebrate women and femininity!

The story may have started with the queens fighting against each other, but as the show ends, all will learn the beauty of having each other in a beautiful sisterhood.

The audience, along with the queens, will also be empowered when they all realize that they're so much more than being Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived that they have been reduced to.

4. The stage is the seventh queen

A pop concert would never be completed without one perfect stage!

With the lights and overall stage setup, "Six" definitely knows how to hype up the crowd. In every song, you'll see the audience clapping and having the time of their life for 90 minutes.

5. Don't miss hearing the iconic songs

You can never pick your favorite anthem as every song and every queen stands out with their own limelight.

Be ready to hear the iconic songs from the musical, such as "Ex-Wives," "Don't Lose Ur Head," "Heart Of Stone," "I Don't Need Your Love," and "Six."

6. Make it the best excuse to dress up!

Be it in gold, green, silver, pink, red, or blue, you can come in the best confident version of yourself, just like a real queen does!

Also, a variety of Instagram-worthy spots are available for you to pose with outside the theater.

Tickets for "Six" are available via Ticketworld online and outlets nationwide, with prices online ranging from P1,798.60 for balcony seats to P5,078.40 for orchestra.

"Six the Musical" debuted at the Edinburgh Festival in 2017 and premiered in the West End and on Broadway in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

It has gone on to win 35 major international awards, including two Tony Awards and a nomination at the Grammys.
