Got a question for Hayao Miyazaki? Here's your chance to ask the Ramon Magsaysay 2024 Awardee!
Hayao Miyazaki is among the Ramon Magsaysay Awardees for this year, and on social media, the foundation announced a chance to ask the legendary Japanese filmmaker your burning questions about his beloved films and even about his inspiring life.
"Send us a 30-second video with your name, age, city, and country and ask your question. It could be featured in his upcoming lecture," The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) said.
Deadline to send questions is on October 11.
According to the RMAF, they will be shortlisting entries and Hayao himself will be choosing around 20-25 questions that he will answer.
Those who sent the chosen questions will be informed.
Hayao's lecture will be recorded in Tokyo, Japan and will be livestreamed by the RMAF's official Facebook and YouTube channels sometime in Q1 of 2025.
Hayao is among this year's awardees of Asia's most prestigious award. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is recognized for his lifelong commitment to the use of art, specifically animation, to illuminate the human condition, especially lauding his devotion to children as the torchbearers of the imagination, to whom he has passed the light and spark of his own.
The Studio Ghibli founder is also recognized for how his films create a positive influence on families and children, with their messages of anti-war and community.
Karma Phuntsho of Bhutan, The Rural Doctors Movement of Thailand, Nguyen Tai Ngoc Phuong of Vietnam, join Hayao Miyazaki as Ramon Magsaysay Awardees this year.
They will each receive a medallion bearing the likeness of the late President, a certificate inscribed with their citation, and a cash prize. The awarding ceremony will take place on November 16 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.
First given in 1958, the Ramon Magsaysay Award celebrates the greatness of spirit and transformative leadership of the Philippine President. It counts the likes of Mother Teresa, Corazon Aquino, Ryan Cayabyab, F. Sionil Jose, and Ka Dodoy Ballon as its laureates.
Last year, Filipina peace negotiator Miriam Coronel-Ferrer was among the awardees.
