Fernando Amorsolo's 'Under the Mango Tree' sold for P57 million, sets new record at Leon Gallery's auction

Fernando Amorsolo's famous "Under the Mango Tree" painting was sold for over P57 million at Leon Gallery's Magnificent September Auction 2024, setting a new record for the National Artist.

According to Leon Gallery, the piece is from the collection of the industrialist and Father of Philippine Air-conditioning Edward J. Nell. It was sold for P57,676,800.

The artwork surpassed the previous record of Amorsolo's 1931 piece titled "Mango Gatherers," which was sold for P46,720,000 at Leon Gallery in 2018.

"Under the Mango Tree" was among the pieces auctioned at the Magnificent September Auction 2024, alongside the manuscript copy of the 1898 Declaration of the Philippine Independence.
