Tanghalang Pilipino launches new season lineup

Tanghalang Pilipino launches new season lineup

The Cultural Center of the Philippines' (CCP) resident theater company Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) launched its 38th Season with the theme "REVOLT."

On Saturday, Tanghalang Pilipino teased fans with the glimpses of its lineup: "Balete," "Sandosenang Sapatos," and "Kisapmata."

TP's Artistic Director, "Tatang" Nanding Josef, vowed to continue to revolt for human rights, justice, and peace in our country and the world.

"REVOLT, kapag binaligtad mo, (TLOVER) nakapaloob diyan 'yung apat na salita. Love. Sa mga ginagawa namin, dapat ang pundasyon ay pagmamahal o pag-ibig," said Tatang Nanding.

The season is set to begin with "Balete," a play based on the novel Tree, written by National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose.

It tells the story of a young boy navigating life in a small Ilokano town, surrounded by friends from different social classes, loyal servants who have devoted their lives to his family, and relatives with deep-rooted expectations.

The cast features Nonie Buencamino, Jonathan Tadioan, Marco Viaña, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan, Toni Go-Yadao, Gelo Molina, Earvin Estioco, and Ynna Rafa.

It will run from September 13 to October 6, Fridays to Sundays, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

Based on the short story "Sandosenang Sapatos" by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, this is a heartwarming musical that follows the journey of a child who wishes to fulfill her shoemaker father's dream of having a ballerina for a daughter. Unfortunately, the child was born without feet.

Among the cast are Felicity Kyle Napuli and Wincess Jem Yana as Susie and Tex Ordoñez-De Leon as Nanay.

The musical was part of Tanghalang Pilipino's 37th season and is set to return this November 15 to December 8.

"Kisapmata" is based on the crime report "The House on Zapote Street" by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin and film by Mike De Leon.

It invites audiences to witness the unraveling of a "perfect" Filipino family on stage, brought to life by the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company. Experience the tension and drama as love and fear collide within the confines of a seemingly idyllic household.

This features the senior members of the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company: Jonathan Tadioan, Marco Viaña, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan, and Toni Go-Yadao.

It will run from March 7, 2025 to March 30, 2025, Fridays to Sundays, also at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

During the launch, it was also announced that TP has been designated by the CCP and National Commission for Culture and the Arts as the national performing arts company for theater from 2024 to 2029.

With this, the company aims to continue educating and awakening the cultural consciousness of Filipino audiences through its regular performances and other related activities like workshops, symposia and interactions.
