Ballet Philippines to launch 55th season with 'La Sylphide' in August

Ballet Philippines is set to launch its 55th season with the first-ever staging of "La Sylphide" this August!

"La Sylphide" will run from Aug. 9 to 11 at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City, with artistic director Mikhail Martynyuk at its helm.

A full-length romantic ballet, "La Sylphide" follows the story of a humble farmer, James Ruben, who is captivated by a forest fairy, also known as a sylph, despite being engaged to marry his sweetheart Effie. Things take a turn when James follows the sylph into the forest, where he meets Madge, a witch who presents him a bewitched scarf.

Tickets to the ballet are priced from P618 to P3,090 and may be purchased via Ticketworld online and outlets nationwide. Tickets are also available via Ballet Philippines' website.

After "La Sylphide," Ballet Philippines will stage "Peter Pan" from Dec. 6 to 8  and will cap off the monumental season with the original Filipiniana full-length ballet, "Ang Panaginip," from Feb. 28 to March 1, 2025.

Ballet Philippines is recognized as the first resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and was founded in 1969 by National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes and Eddie Elejar with its founding Chairman Jaime Zobel de Ayala.
