R’Bonney Gabriel tries out traditional Filipino weaving

R’Bonney Gabriel tried her hand at traditional Filipino weaving.

At an event organized by Pinas Sadya—a shop and community that provides fashion and lifestyle products from Filipino weavers—Miss Universe 2022 sat at a Filipino handloom and gave it a go.

R’Bonney was seen inserting the thread slowly through the fabric's various layers, which shows how intricate traditional Filipino weaving truly is.

R'Bonney's weaving experience took place in Rockwell, Makati, where textile scientist Cris Angelo spoke to the beauty queen "about our natural fiber technologies and locally developed fabrics, aligned with our sustainability efforts in the textile industry," Angelo said in an Instagram Stories post.

Aside from being a beauty queen, R’Bonney is also a sustainable fashion designer. She previously made a dress with traditional fabric from Sultan Kudarat and is set to start on a new collection.

R’Bonney arrived in the Philippines in April, and stayed “for longer” for modeling, hosting, guestings, and other work engagements.

The first Filipino-American Miss Universe has been exploring her heritage in the Philippines, from eating Pinoy street food, practicing her "tawad" game in Divisoria, riding a jeepney, traveling to beaches, visiting her dad Remigio’s childhood home in Malate, Manila, and learning to cook sinigang.
