This Japanese artist walked around Panay Island in 30 days

Tappei Noguchi, a Japanese artist, has been spotted walking around Panay Island in Western Visayas.

According to an “Unang Balita” report, he roamed the region in 30 days. The artist noticeably carries a traditional Filipino woven backpack that is filled to the brim, and tied to this is an old tire that he pulls while walking.

The report said that Noguchi was able to experience scenic views and Filipino hospitality. As a way to thank the people he met, he gave them his drawings.

According to posts on the Booming Western Visayas Facebook page — an online community where netizens share the latest developments in the region — Noguchi started his journey in Roxas City, Capiz, and then went to Carles and Ajuy in Iloilo. He was last seen in Sebaste, Antique, and was on his way to Aklan. The artist is set to return to Roxas City.

Based on the website Turn Project, Noguchi is an “art explorer” born in 1992.

Beginning in April 2021, he envisioned a new project of pulling a tire from a wartime plane across the coastal regions of the Pacific Ocean.

Noguchi’s works explore systems and philosophies that are influenced by travel. He tests and creates art forms from what suddenly happens in the moment.

His signature works include “Hitchhiking towards New York” and “Traveling all the way around Taiwan while pulling tires.” —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
