Broadway musical 'Rent' is back in Manila with an all-Filipino cast
No need to wait 525,600 minutes because the Broadway musical "Rent" is back in Manila!
From April 19 to June 1, 2024, 9Works Theatrical will be staging Jonathan Larson's "Rent" at the RCBC Theater Plaza.
The all-Filipino cast includes Kapuso singer Anthony Rosaldo, who will play the character Roger Davis, Garrett Bolden as Tom Collins, and Thea Astley as Mimi Marquez.
Also among the cast members are Molly Langle, who will be alternating with Thea as Mimi, Reb Atadero and Ian Pangilinan as Mark Cohen, Lance Reblando and Adrian Lindayag as Angel Dumott Schunard, Justine Peña and Jasmine Fitzgerald as Maureen Johnson, Mica Fajardo and Fay Castro as Joanne Jefferson, Markki Stroem and Guji Lorenzana as Benny, Kai Banson as Sue, Jordan Andrews as Gordon, Chesko Rodriguez and Paul Valdez as Steve, and Misha Fabian as Ally.
During an exclusive press visit to their rehearsal, the team shared a sneak peek of what the audience should look forward to upon watching "Rent."
They sang "No Day But Today," led by Anthony, Thea, and Molly.
"Rent" is a rock-inspired musical known as one of the most popular and influential modern musicals that premiered on Broadway in 1996.
It earned multiple Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama award, telling the story of eight individuals trying to figure out life and its challenges.
“Rent" portrays real-world situations and issues such as poverty, LGBTQA+ rights, and HIV/AIDS, making it relevant and impactful.
Among the notable songs in this musical are "Seasons of Love," "I'll Cover You," "Another Day," "What You Own," and many more.
The musical will run for about two and a half hours.

9 Works Theatrical previously staged Rent in 2010 and 2011, with Gian Magdangal and Ciara Sottl in the lead roles.
