Lea Salonga’s rendition of ‘Hahanapin Ko’ among most anticipated songs at The Tabernacle Choir concert in Manila
Lea Salonga will perform “Hahanapin ko” at the Manila stop of The Tabernacle Choir world tour, the critically acclaimed Filipina theater icon revealed in a press conference held at Conrad Hotel in Pasay on Monday.
According to Lea, she has been performing the Jose Mari Chan composition for a good 21 years now.
“It’s a song [about] being a Filipino that’s been transplanted to another country, and you are remembering what it is about home that you remember and love so much,” she said.
Another number that Lea is set to perform at the free concert is a Broadway song from the musical, “Baby.”
“I think expectant mothers can feel this song the most,” she said.
“If [you’re] a mom who remembers the first movements of your child while they were still in the womb, it’s the excitement of that,” she added.
In the same press conference, Lea said she’s thrilled to perform as a guest artist for The Tabernacle Choir for a second time.
“To be able to do it again and to be able to do it in my home country is very special,” she said.
The free concert will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on February 27 and 28 at 8 p.m.
Aside from Lea, Filipina singer-songwriter Ysabelle Cuevas will join the choir in their performances.
Meanwhile, “Unang Hirit” broadcaster Suzie Entrata-Abrera and her husband Paolo Abrera will serve as narrators during the performances.
Led by renowned composer and director Mack Wilberg, The Tabernacle Choir is an Emmy and Grammy award-winning choir known worldwide for its one-of-a-kind signature sound created by 420 volunteer voices.
Lea first performed with the choir in December 2022 for the “Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra” at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
