Gwendolyne Fourniol takes inspiration from Ilonggo textiles for her Miss World National Costume
Gwendolyne Fourniol proudly showcased her Filipino roots through her national costume during the opening ceremony of this year’s Miss World competition.
On Instagram, the Filipina beauty queen gave a closer look at her costume, a “representation of the Filipina’s craft spirit of dignity, growth, and joy.”
Made by Filipino fashion designer Louis Pangan, the costume was hand-embroidered with embellishments inspired by the Hiligaynon’s authentic Ilonggo textiles and was paired with a metal crown headpiece.
“Accessorized with a sun ray-shaped, golden goddess-like back dress and two large golden palaspas-like, or a palm bouquets made of patterned-faux feathers,” Gwendolyne said in her caption.
“The silhouette bodice was incorporated with India’s traditional print called ‘Ikat’ arranged with vibrant array of glass beads, Swarovski crystals, and sequins which was created by tying and dyeing yarn section before weaving the fabric," she added.
Gwendolyne flew to India last weekend. Before flying to the host country, she asked for support for the Multimedia Award challenge.
She took home the Miss World Philippines crown in 2022.
The 71st Miss World Festival kicked off on February 18 and will end on March 9.
