MMFF 2023 gross receipts reach P1 billion

The 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is extended, and the gross receipts are now at P1 billion!

In a statement on Sunday evening, supposedly the last screening day of the festival's 10 entries, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that due to "numerous" requests from the public, the movies' theatrical run will be extended through January 14.

In the same post, MMDA also delivered the good news that the gross receipts for MMFF 2023 have already earned a whopping P1 billion to date, surpassing the performance of the 2022 festival's P500 million earnings.

Meanwhile, the 10 official entries, "A Family of 2 (A Mother and Son Story)," "(K)Ampon," "Penduko," "Rewind," "Becky and Badette," "Broken Heart's Trip," "Firefly," "GomBurZa," "Mallari," and "When I Met You in Tokyo," are set to be screened at the inaugural Manila International Film Festival in Los Angeles, California starting on January 29.

"Firefly," an offering from GMA Pictures, won Best Picture and Best Screenplay awards.

Cedrick Juan, who plays the role of Jose Burgos in the historical film "GomBurZa," took home the much-coveted Best Actor award, with Vilma Santos of "When I Met You In Tokyo" being the award's female counterpart.
