Beauty Gonzalez on receiving criticism for wearing excavated gold: ‘I respect what she believes, I respect also what I believe’
Beauty Gonzalez has addressed the criticism she received online for the jewelry she wore at the GMA Gala 2023.
According to a report by Pep, there was no hint of anger in Beauty’s delayed response, as she shrugged off the issue.
“Well, it’s better that I didn’t talk coz it’s a very unending conversation,” Beauty said.
“I respect what she believes, I respect also what I believe, and I only wish world peace,” she added.
When asked if she plans on wearing the accessory again, the actress answered “Yes, definitely,” teasing that “you should watch for more!”
At the GMA Gala, Beauty wore gold pieces said to be more or less a thousand years old. The “Stolen Life” star said her look was "an appreciation for Philippine Ancestral Gold.”
But cultural critic and independent curator Marian Pastor Roces called out Beauty for wearing "grave robber stuff."
"Someone tell this woman that the orifice covers she is paying 'homage' to are grave robber stuff. Because if these were legally excavated, the pieces would belong to the National Museum or the Bangko Sentral," Marian wrote on Facebook.
According to Pastor Roces, the ancestral pieces of jewelry were reworked by local bespoke jeweler Riqueza Fine Jewellery and had already made a previous appearance at the National Museum and Ayala Museum.
"This fashion victim is wearing mouth and eye covers: around 10 of them. Which is to say that the necklace was fashioned from excavations of many individuals. That is an astounding number of desecrated graves!" Marian said of Beauty.
