PHLPost launches special edition stamps featuring dogs from Philippine history

PHLPost releases special edition stamps featuring dogs from PH history

The Philippine Postal Service (PHLPost) launched collectible stamps featuring nine dogs that left a mark, or should we say paw print, in Philippine history.

The Dogs in Philippine History Special Stamps takes inspiration from the book “Dogs in Philippine History” by Ian Christopher Alfonso.

In a press release, PHLPost said that “the stamps awaken our understanding and treatment of dogs as it unfolds with the history of our country.”

Animal and history lovers will surely appreciate the special stamps.

The beloved four-legged friends immortalized on the stamps are: Usman, the pet dog of Jose Rizal; Saver, an Aspin featured in TV and films in the 90s; Moltke and Bravo, the Dalmatians of Marcelo H. Del Pilar; Tigre, the dog of Pampanga Revolutionary Governor Tiburcio Hilario; Castelar, a stray Aspin adopted by American soldier William Baker; Torpe, the white Aspin of Don Tranquilo Ruiz; Smoky, the Yorkshire Terrier known as the hero of Lingayen; and Kabang, the Aspin-crossed German Shepherd that saved two kids in Zamboanga.

Each stamp costs P16 while a souvenir sheet is priced at P100.
