Ricky Lee is among the most creative people and most prolific people out there, with a mind so imaginative that his stories range from the many parallel universes in romance, to a feminist film trilogy that discusses abuse and gender inequality, among many others.

But with countless books, essays, and 186 screenwriting credits to his name, the National Artist for Film and Broadcast told GMA News Online that if there is a piece of work he wishes he wrote, it would be both seasons of “The Bear.”

“The Bear” is a comedy-drama that follows a fine dining chef named Carmy who inherits his family’s sandwich shop after the death of his older brother.

Totally different from his previous fine dining life, Carmy must deal with debts, a rowdy staff, and a kitchen that is in bad shape, as he works through his own pain.

“Yung ‘The Bear’ na napanood ko, wow,” Lee told GMA News Online in between his book signings at the Manila International Book Fair. “And mas maganda yung season 2 kaysa sa season 1 eh, normally mas maganda ang one,” he added.

He specifically wishes he wrote one of the series’ longest episodes.

“May isang episode, I think episode six, lalo na yung episode six, one hour ‘yon. The rest kasi is mga 30 minutes or 40 minutes lang,” Lee said.

Lee said, “And bihira yung ganon. Hindi naman ako mayabang, pero siguro sa tanda ko na at sa tagal ko nang pagsusulat at sa dami ng napanood ko, bihira na yung ganung ‘sana ako na lang nagsulat.’ Nakadaan ako sa ganung stage eh, unlike nung younger years ko.”

Ricky Lee is the writer of the films “Cain at Abel,” and “Himala,” as well as the books “Para Kay B,” “Kulang na Silya at Iba Pang Kwentong Buhay,” “Si Amapola,” the scriptwriting manual “Trip to Quiapo,” and many more.

In the same interview, Ricky also talked about his love for music, an important passion that helps him create.
