A love letter to Filipino seafarers: PH Navy reservist Kristine Lim unveils 'Bridging Horizon' exhibit in GMA HQ
In celebration of the 24th National Maritime Week and 28th National Seafarers' Day last Sunday, Philippine Navy reservist and renowned artist Kristine Lim has unveiled some of her artworks dubbed "Perla de Oriente" for the exhibit "Bridging Horizons: Naval Cultural Exchange Through the Arts" at the main lobby of GMA Network Center in Quezon City on Monday.
During the unveiling, Kristine was joined by GMA International First Vice President Joseph Francia.
Kristine's masterpieces for the exhibit highlight the primary colors of the Philippine Navy and incorporate the country's national symbols, including the Anahaw, Sampaguita, Philippine Eagle, Mangga (through its leaf), Bangus, and other representations unique to the Philippines.
In an interview with GMA News Online, the artist and reservist said her art pieces are all in circular silhouettes because they symbolize God's completion.
"'Bridging Horizons' is not just a project that is for GMA na isang araw lang, this is a much bigger thing, and I'm so happy to be able to unveil this and make sure na 'yung GMA' yung magkakaroon ng unang glimpse," Kristine said.
According to Kristine, "Bridging Horizons" is a collaborative project with the Philippine Navy. It will tour different countries in a span of five years.
"These paintings are meant to be gifted to different dignitaries and heads of state in different counties, and we just want this to be a tangible reminder to all of them kung sino tayo [as Filipinos]," she said.
"It reflects not just the Philippine Navy but the Philippines as a whole," she added.
After the preview in GMA this week, "Bridging Horizons" will head to the headquarters of the Philippine Navy on September 30 before its international launch on October 11 at the Manila Metropolitan Theater.
