'Hamilton': Rachelle Ann Go says starring in PH run of acclaimed musical is 'a dream come true'
Rachelle Ann Go is excited to be home for the Philippine run of the award-winning musical "Hamilton."
At the "Hamilton" press conference held in Solaire Resort on Wednesday, the Filipino singer and theater actress said she considers being in the Philippines and portraying Elizabeth Schuyler as a priceless gift.
"This is a dream come true for me," Rachelle told the members of the press.
"I was actually telling some of my friends that back in 2017, when I did this role in the West End, I had a feeling that Hamilton [would] be coming to the Philippines," she added.
Little did Rachelle know that since that manifestation, "Hamilton" would be available for Filipinos to witness six years later.
"For some reason, I just had that vision, and I told myself, I'm gonna do this role in the Philippines," she said.
"And here I am, doing it in front of our Kababayans," she added. "This is such a dream come true, and also to be home and be with my family."
Rachelle also said it's a different kind of bliss to see the Filipino audience enjoy "Hamilton."
"They're into it. They're absorbing every single word, every single scene. Just seeing their faces in awe makes my heart throb like 'aw," she said.
"I guess that's the difference between performing [here] and abroad, just being home itself, it's such a gift," she added.
Aside from "Hamilton," Rachelle is best known for her roles as Gigi in "Miss Saigon" and Fantine in "Les Miserables" in the West End.
"Hamilton" runs in The Theatre in Solaire until November 26.
"Hamilton" tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of what is now the United States of America. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the lyrics, music, and libretto of this hip-hop musical.
The critically acclaimed musical has earned 11 Tony Awards, seven Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
The international tour of "Hamilton" is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, The Public Theater, and Michael Cassel.
The Manila season, which happens to be the Asian premiere of "Hamilton," is presented by Michael Cassel Group and GMG Productions.
