'Rent' will be staged in Manila in 2024
Look out theater fans — "Rent" will be staged in Manila in 2024!
The Manila staging of the classic Broadway musical was announced by 9 Works Theatrical, at the final curtain call of “Tick, Tick… Boom!” over the weekend.
Theater actors Khalil Ramos, Jef Flores, Tanya Manalang, Kayla Rivera, Reb Atadero, and Vien King sang “Seasons of Love” to make the announcement.
While an opening date is yet to be announced, 9 Works Theatrical has shared it is now holding auditions.
“Rent” debuted on Broadway in 1996. It follows a group of young artists struggling to make ends meet in New York City. The characters go through their own ups and downs with money, family, relationships, and the struggles of living with HIV/AIDS.
Its music, lyrics, and book are by Jonathan Larson, who also made the semi-autobiographical work “Tick, Tick… Boom!”
“Rent” has been staged in Manila several times through the years, with Gian Magdangal and Ciara Sotto among the cast members.
Among its most popular songs is "Seasons of Love," which asks an important question: "525,600 minutes—how do you measure a year?"
