Dolly de Leon says working on an indie film is her dream
Dolly de Leon said starring in an independent film has been her dream for the longest time.
In the recent episode of "Share Ko Lang," the Golden Globe nominee said she immediately grabbed the opportunity when she got an offer for a role in a Cinemalaya film "Iti Mapukpukaw."
"Pangarap ko talagang magtrabaho sa indie scene because 'yun 'yung mga stories that have never been told, untapped stories," the actress said.
"You're working with true artists who really love the craft and [work] on a very small budget but they make it work anyway and make it effective, and that's why I did that," she added.
According to Dolly, her only hope for the Philippine film industry is for it to improve its working condition because she couldn't help but compare her international experiences.
"Sana magbago na 'yun para mas lalo akong ganahan magtrabaho dito kasi nako-compare ko e," she said.
"So, alam kong people will think na, 'Ay ano ba 'yan, nagtrabaho lang siya sa ibang bansa, e ganyan na siya mag-isip,'" she added. "I can't help it, of course I will compare."
Dolly said comparison is somewhat healthy if it means taking notes of the "best practices on how to make things better."
"So hopefully, that's the goal ultimately, I would really love for the film industry to improve," she said.
On Sunday, Dolly won the Best Supporting Actress award at this year's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival for her role in "Iti Mapukpukaw," which won Best Film.
Aside from "Iti Mapukpukaw," Dolly also starred in the Cinemalaya entry "Ang Duyan ng Magiting," which won the Special Jury Prize.
Dolly's career has been on a roll since she starred in "Triangle of Sadness." She picked up historic nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs.
