“Hamilton” premiered on Broadway in August 2015 and has been staged in London’s West End, Australia, Germany, Canada and New Zealand.
Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, it has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education.
“Hamilton” is based on Ron Chernow’s bestselling historical biography of statesman Alexander Hamilton, considered the Founding Father of the United States of America, and is described “the story of America then told by America now.”
It was adapted into a musical with book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire.
Miranda is no stranger to the Filipino audience. He was in the Philippines to grace the opening of his earlier musical “In The Heights,” on March 16, 2012 for the re-staging at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Tower, Makati City.
For “Hamilton,” Miranda and the team got 11 Tony Awards®, seven Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
As of press time, GMG Productions can’t say it yet if Miranda will also be present in the Manila premiere of “Hamilton." — LA, GMA Integrated News
