Heart Evangelista says 'Crazy Rich Asians' author Kevin Kwan 'launched me'
Heart Evangelista says she owes a lot to "Crazy Rich Asian" author Kevin Kwan.
On Friday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Heart traced back on how she became one of the top global fashion influencers today.
Some six or seven years ago, Heart admitted to being tired of having to conform with society's expectations and being bored with her life.
She started painting and "I decided I couldn't conform anymore with the world. I was invited to attend one of the first shows of Schiaparelli when they opened up again," she narrated.
Then Heart met Kevin Kwan. "Nag-click kami. I really owe a lot to him. Kevin Kwan in a sense launched me with the Harpers Bazaar feature," she said.
At that time, she had just lost her twins and was going through a tough time. "I was in a phase in my life: What's next? Especially with the pressure [na] kailangan mag-anak ka. What's next for you? Yung pag-aanak was parang a career path," Heart said.
And then she got a call from Kevin Kwan for a feature on Harper's Bazaar. She initially declined to be included in it because "I'm not really a crazy rich Asian so parang hindi ako bagay," she narrated.
"But he said something very nice. He said that I was aspirational and that I should be part of the video."
That was in 2018. In 2019, Heart was included in a list of Top 10 fashion influencers at the Fashion Week. In 2022, Vogue Singapore named her one of the best dressed celebrities at Paris Fashion Week. — LA, GMA Integrated News
