De La Salle Zobel Rondalla wins gold at music festival in Hawaii
The De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) Rondalla won the gold award in the Instrumental Ensemble Category at the 38th Pacific Basin International Music Festival 2023 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Not only did they secure a win, but they also had the distinction of being the only delegate from Asia in that category.
The Pacific Basin International Music Festival is an international educational music event that brings together high school and college bands, orchestras, and choirs from countries all over the world, like the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and more.
The DLSZ Rondalla group consists of 17 high school students.
At the festival, the youth group performed several tunes, such as The Beatles medley arranged by Josefino Chino Toledo.
They also did "Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel (arranged by Jerome Balandra), "Plink, Plank Plunk" by Leroy Anderson (arranged by Jimuel Dave Dagta), and "Gabi ng mga Aswang" by Christi-Anne Castro.
They were under the guidance of the school's Rondalla Conductor Philip Dagang and Music Coordinator Daryl Galicia. The Cultural Affairs Office Head Lynette Feliciano also joined them in Hawaii.
