'Hamilton' to make Asian premiere in the Philippines this September!
"Hamilton" is coming to the Philippines this September!
On social media, GMG Productions posted a video of Lin-Manuel Miranda making the announcement.
"I'm so excited to officially announce that Hamilton will be making its Asian premiere in the Philippines," he began.
Giving a shout out to Filipino "Hamilton" company members all throughout the world, Miranda said, "now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon."
According to the announcement, "Hamilton" will hit The Theater in Solaire this September.
"Make sure to sign up for the waitlist and stay tuned for ticket announcements," Miranda added before ending the announcement with an endearing "Tara! Mwah, mahal kita."
“Hamilton” tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of what is now the United States of America. Miranda wrote the lyrics, music and libretto of this sung-and-rapped-through musical, based on the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow, published in 2004.
It premiered off-Broadway on February 17, 2015 at the Public Theater in New York City. At the 70th Tony Awards, "Hamilton" won 11 awards including Best Musical.
It has also received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a filmed version was released in 2020 on Disney Plus.
GMG Productions meanwhile is a company that has been helping bring Broadway musicals to Manila. Most recently, it brought “The Sound of Music” and “We Will Rock You,” the musical that pays tribute to the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen to Philippine shores.
Yesterday, GMG Productions teased the arrival of "Hamilton" to the country with a short six-second video of Miranda saying "What's up dude, pare?"
