Where did the teddy bear get its name? Kuya Kim has the answer
Have you ever wondered where the teddy bear got its name?
On "24 Oras" on Tuesday, Kuya Kim explained how the beloved stuffed toy came to be known as a teddy bear.
Back in 1902, former United States president Theodore Roosevelt went on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in the States.
He was the only one who wasn't able to find a bear, so his assistant tied a real-life black bear to a tree so the president could kill it. The president refused.
This impressed a lot of people, and one day, a candy shop owner made a stuffed bear to honor Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. They called this Teddy's Bear.
From there, it eventually became known as teddy bear.
For fans of teddy bears, there's a teddy museum in Hungary displaying the teddy bear collection of Istvanne Arnoczki, who holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest teddy bear collection. His collection has 20,367 items which he began collecting in 1978.
Interestingly enough, the first stuffed toy was actually an elephant. It was made in 1880 and sold as a pincushion.
