Immerse yourself with art in these cool spots in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a top-of-mind tourist destination for being a shopping paradise and food haven with its state-of-the-art shopping malls and award-winning bars and restaurants.
While these factors remain to be Hong Kong's greatest asset, the city's burgeoning art and culture scene is something that tourists should not miss when visiting Hong Kong.
Aside from the traditional landmarks such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Hong Kong Palace Museum, the city's West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) offers new sights for art lovers to experience.
M+
Poised as Asia's first global museum of contemporary visual culture, M+ features a 17,000 square meter art space with an exhibition space, cinemas, a lecture theater, learning facilities, performance spaces, cafes, a retail shop, and a public roof terrace.
Currently exhibited at M+ until May 14 is "Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now," which showcases the most extensive retrospective of the celebrated Japanese artist in Asia outside Japan, with over 200 of Kusama's works of art.
Hong Kong Palace Museum
For history lovers, the Hong Kong Palace Museum is a no-brainer. Here, over 900 priceless treasures from Beijing's Palace Museum are exhibited on its four floors of arts and culture haven.
One of the most interesting pieces and oldest treasures in the Hong Kong Palace Museum is the Tripod (gui) from the Neolithic Period. Made during the Shang dynasty, the Tripod is said to be used as cooking vessels by the Dawenkou and Longshan cultures of the lower Yellow River valley.
ARTE M
For the younger generation, aka the Gen Z's, the ARTE M exhibit will definitely catch their fancy with its exhibit perfect for Instagram.
With space and nature reinterpreted as a medium of art, the eternal nature exhibit at ARTE M features six rooms of immersive media art, including Beach Aurora, Flower Camellia, Flower Rapeseed, Wave, Jungle Tropic, and Jungle Glow.
