Here's the meaning behind Celeste Cortesi's cape at the Miss Universe prelims
Celeste Cortesi is on fire!
The Miss Universe Philippines strutted the stage of the Preliminaries in a hot pink bikini number, paired with a white cape that featured hand prints.
According to Miss Universe Philippines, Celeste's personalized cape "highlights her experience in visiting the youth and their families during the Save the Children Philippines outreach in Marawi."
"In amplifying the voices of the children who need our help, I wanted to bring them with me on the Miss Universe stage. The imprints all over the cape remind me that having a title means to have a purpose beyond myself," Celeste said in a statement, shared by Miss Universe Philippines in a separate Instagram post.
This year, Miss Universe had the candidates pair their swimsuits with capes they themselves designed, or in collaboration with an artist from their country, to help tell the story of the candidate.
For the swimsuit competition, the candidates will wear capes that are designed by them or with help from an artist from their country. These will tell a story about the candidate. @gmanews @gmanewsbreaking
