Miss Universe to use sustainable sashes for 71st edition of the pageant

Miss Universe is going to use sustainable sashes for the 71st edition of the pageant.

According to an Instagram post, these sashes are made from 100% post-consumer recycled fabric and thread and with ethically produced rhinestones. 

“We hope our commitment to sustainability will reduce the overall amount of plastic and waste in the environment,” the organization said in the caption.

In partnership with The Sash Company, Miss Universe said “this is one small step of many” in making the “greatest impact on making a greener future for all.”

Just recently, Miss Universe and Mouawad also unveiled the “Force for Good” crown which is made of sapphires and diamonds.

Miss Universe 2022, the 71st edition, is happening on January 14, 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Philippines’ representative is Filipina-Italian beauty Celeste Cortesi, who won the crown in April. —Franchesca Viernes/KG, GMA Integrated News
