Philippine mythology takes the spotlight in this Hulu short film
Philippine folklore still give us the creeps.
This spooky season, filmmaker Carlo Ledesma brought an iconic being to life on global screens, via an episode of “Bite Size Halloween” on Hulu, a series featuring standalone horror shorts.
“As a Filipino filmmaker it’s always been a dream of mine to share our myths and monsters to a global audience,” the writer and director said in a Facebook post.
When 20th Digital Studio invited him to pitch for the series’ third season, he said, “I knew exactly which tree-dwelling, cigar-smoking creature I wanted to feature.”
“And thanks to an amazing dream team cast and crew, we were able to bring our hundred foot giant to life,” Ledesma added.
“So world, meet the Kapre. The Philippine version of Bigfoot. He’s nice once ya get to know him.”
According to the Hulu synopsis, “The Kapre” follows “Two unsuspecting Americans [who] awaken a large and legendary creature while camping in an enchanted Philippine forest.”
It stars Tippy Dos Santos and Nico Locco.
Ledesma is the director of the thriller films “Sunod” and “The Tunnel.” He was also one of the screenplay writers for “Saving Sally.”
