Bulacan fiesta aims to inspire youth, highlights parade featuring accomplished residents

A community in Bulacan is hoping to inspire the youth as it celebrates its barrio fiesta in honor of St. Thomas.

As reported by GMA News Online’s Joseff Tuazon on Saturday, the festivities in Barangay Taboc, Angat, Bulacan, were highlighted by a grand parade featuring some of the barrio’s most accomplished young residents.

Riding on convertible cars, “the pride of Taboc” includes the barangay’s first native-born doctor to become Angat’s municipal health officer; a computer engineer who was sent by his company to US for work excellence; a corporate lawyer; and a certified public accountant, among other notable residents.

According to hermano mayor and New York-based Ramon Filoteo, through the parade, he hopes to inspire and motivate the youth of the community to strive harder toward higher education to reach their goals and be successful.

“It’s my service and love of God,” he said, adding it’s his “way of motivating the interest of the youngsters in pursuing their education.”

Filoteo said it took him about six months to organize the parade, which was his self-funded passion project.

The parade also featured a street performance from the student-members of the drum and bugle corps of Angat National High School, which was located in Taboc. – RC, GMA News
