Shamcey Supsup-Lee on Miss Universe Philippines 2022: 'It's gonna be our biggest pageant yet'

Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee is positive that this year's Miss Universe Philippines pageant is the biggest and grandest yet in the history of local pageantry.

"This year is really exciting — it's our 3rd year. For the past two years, we have been in a pandemic. And so we were very limited with all our activities. But God willing, this year, everything goes according to plan," Shamcey told GMA News Online.

According to the beauty queen, they have been planning this physical event for the past two years, so this year's competition would definitely be worth the wait for all pageant fans and enthusiasts.

"We wanted it to be a big event so all the fans could enjoy and watch and witness the biggest national pageant in the Philippines," she added.

Shamcey, who graced the unveiling of the Francis Libiran Universe fashion exhibit at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila last April 13, expressed her gratitude for Francis Libiran, who has consistently supported Miss Universe Philippines through his skills in making our representatives' gowns.

"I know the work that entails to produce all the bead gowns, and I think you could really see the dedication," Shamcey said. "Kasi usually, when you ask other designers to do gowns for our representatives, usually there's really no extra gowns. Pero siya, without us telling him, he was the one who initiated to provide different looks."

Recalling the previous Miss Universe competition when Beatrice Luigi Gomez represented the Philippines, Shamcey shared how Libiran ensured the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 always felt beautiful and confident in her gowns during the most recent Miss Universe.

True enough, Bea looked breathtaking in every second she wore a Libiran creation during the Miss Universe 2021.

"I've always believed that confidence comes from within. But it also made me realize that confidence also comes from a Francis Libiran creation," Bea affirmed.

Meanwhile, Shamcey thanked all the pageant fans and supporters for their continued support.

"There's a lot more in store for everybody who's been supporting Miss Universe Philippines. We thank you for sticking by us. Hopefully, this year will not disappoint," Shamcey concluded.
