Catriona Gray's wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore is finally here!

It's been a long time coming but Catriona Gray’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore (MTS) is finally here, and you visit it beginning March 31!

MTS unveiled the figure with a Facebook Live broadcast attended by none other than Catriona herself.

"I've always had the perception that to be in Madame Tussauds, you had to be an influential historical figure, like a president or a A-list global superstar," she said. "If you had told 13-year-old me, 'hey, you will have a Madame Tussauds wax figure one day,' I wouldn't have believed you. To be standing here is quite surreal," Cat continued.

The wax figure bears her iconic look from when she won Miss Universe 2018 and speaking to GMA News Online, Catriona admitted to feeling shocked when she first saw it up close.

“Everything you see on the wax figure is as close to reality as it can possibly be,” she said. “I looked at her teeth, even the veins on the hands — it’s crazy.”

“Even my beauty spots — I have a lot — she has them. Feeling ko napagod yung artists trying to like put the spots for my moles, but it’s really really incredible,” she added.

According to Catriona, the sitting process took long with a number of processes needed to ensure that every inch of the figure will be accurate. This included identifying items she wore on the coronation.

“There was 3D photography, photographs from every angle you could think of,” she recalled. “There were even colorists that would match the color of my skin, eyeballs, hair, nail polish.”

“They even asked for the brand of lipstick that I wore, even the color of my nail polish, they even asked for the shoes and accessories, so I gave them replicas of that,” she added.

While almost everything had to be copied, Filipino designer Mak Tumang made another lava gown to go with Catriona’s wax figure, giving that immortalized feel to her winning look.

Being only the 3rd Filipino to get a wax figure at Madame Tussauds — the first at the popular museum's Singapore location — Catriona feels nothing but honor and gratitude.

"To be here at Madame Tussauds Singapore as the only filipino, it's my hope that my fellow kababayans, fellow Filipinos walk these halls, that they feel a sense of pride because that's the emotion I carried on the Miss Universe stage," she said at the launch.

During the online interview with GMA News Online, Cat said, “I was really credulous. I couldn’t believe it ‘cause I had a perception that to be in Madame Tussauds, you are a certain level of global celebrity.”

“I look forward to the day where you could walk through Madame Tussauds and see a Filipino scientist, performer, or leader. I think that’s something [we should] really aim towards achieving," she added.

In January 2020, Catriona Gray happily announced getting her own Madame Tussaud's wax figure, with the museum having grand plans for it: Unveil in Manila, travel to Singapore, tour Bangkok and Hong Kong.

But COVID-19 quickly shut the world down. After a few more reroutes and detours, Catriona Gray finally joins the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach who both have their are wax figures displayed in Hong Kong.

This makes Catriona Gray the first and so far only Filipino to get a wax figure in Madame Tussauds Singapore.
