New stamps honor 10 outstanding Filipinos in sports, arts, sciences

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has unveiled new stamps featuring 10 outstanding Filipinos who have proven to be an inspiration in their respective fields.

Called the “Living Legends - Outstanding Filipinos: Series I,” the collection honors those who excelled in theater and visual arts, science and technology, and sports.

The Filipinos chosen for the new collection are actors Nora Aunor, Gloria Romero, Rosa Rosal, Susan Roces, and Vilma Santos; and scientists Dr. Ernesto O. Domingo and Dr. Baldomero Olivera.

Joining them due to their impact on the sports industry are bowler Olivia “Bong” Coo and basketball player “El Presidente” Ramon Fernandez. Completing the 10 is painter Romulo Galicano.

PHLPost said it’s about time for these people to be honored for promoting Filipino values “sipag, tiyaga, malasakit, at pagmamahal sa bayan.”

The release of “Living Legends - Outstanding Filipinos: Series I” is in line with the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the first issuance of stamps by the Republic of the Philippines. — Franchesca Viernes/BM, GMA News
