National Artist Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio honored at CCP ahead of first death anniversary


National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio was given a Necrological Tribute at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Saturday.

Families, relatives and fellow artists paid their respects to the Founding Artistic Director of Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas during the program.

Amelia died on December 29, 2020 at the age of 90.

Among her many accomplishments include writing no less than 44 plays, 136 short stories, 26 books, and a novel about World War II, written for young readers.

In 2018, she was bestowed the title Order of National Artist, the highest recognition given to individuals for their contributions on the development and preservation of the Philippine arts and culture. —JCB, GMA News
