Before Ben&Ben: Paolo and Miguel Benjamin reveals they started out as a duo

Before Ben&Ben, there was The Benjamins.

In a "Tunay Na Buhay" episode, lead vocalists Paolo and Miguel Benjamin Guico revealed they first started out as a duo called The Benjamins. The twins added they wanted to become members of a rock band at the very start.

"Elementary kami, isa sa mga una natutunan naming kanta 'yung mga kanta ng Parokya Ni Edgar tyaka siyempre Eraserheads, Rivermaya. Ganoon 'yung time na 'yun, 'yung Callalily, Spongecola. Marami sa time na 'yun na bands na rock bands," they said.

[When we were in elementary, among the songs we learned how to play were the songs of Parokya Ni Edgar and Eraserheads, Rivermaya. That was what it was like back then, Callalily, Spongecola. There were a lot of rock bands also during the time.]

Back in college, Paolo shared that they got more musically inspired after they joined Ryan Cayabyab's Elements Music Camp. It left them electrified with inspiration and encouraged them to just pursue their music dream.

Eventually, what was once a duo became a larger band as the nine members found themselves collaborating with each other.

Ben&Ben, known for their hit songs "Kathang Isip" and "Leaves," released their highly anticipated second album last August, two years after they released their debut album “Limasawa Street. It featured collaborations with multiple other Filipino artists such as SB19, Chito Miranda and KZ Tandingan. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
