Hidilyn Diaz revealed the meaning behind the miraculous medal she wore as she gave the Philippines' its first Olympic gold.
In a press conference posted on the Philippine Olympic Committee Facebook page, Hidilyn was asked about the miraculous medal she was seen wearing at the Olympics upon receiving the medal.
"Miraculous medal po. Binigay ng friend ko nag-novena sila for nine days before my competition. Ako din po nag-novena," she shared with the press.
Hidilyn said it is "a [symbol] 'nung prayers nila and faith ko rin to Mama Mary and Jesus Christ," she added.
On her first Instagram Stories post since winning the gold, Hidilyn was seen holding up both the Olympic gold medal in one hand and the miraculous medal on the other.
"Thank you for praying," Hidilyn wrote.
