On Filipino Heritage Month, Canadian officials honor Filipino frontliners, culture

Canadian leaders on Thursday honored Filipino frontliners and their contribution to the country's fight against COVID-19 pandemic as they celebrate Filipino Heritage Month via online festivities.

In a video posted on Filipino Canadian National Congress, Candian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hailed the contributions of Filipinos in communities in Canada, citing over 837,000 people with Philippine origin living in Canada.

"For all of us, the month of June is an opportunity to learn about your rich history, to embrace your vibrant culture because everyday you make our country a better place to live in and even though we can't be together again this year that's still worth celebrating," said Trudeau.

In the same video presentation, Ambassador Rodolfo Robles of Philippine Embassy in Canada joined the celebration of Filipino Heritage Month as he urged his compatriots to continue to show the good culture and morals of Filipinos.

Hon. Erin O'Toole, leader of the official opposition of Canada, for his part extended his "many thanks" to all Filipino-Canadian frontline workers for being heroes in the battle against COVID-19.

Jagmeet Singh, head of Canada's New Democrat, celebrated the contributions, heritage and culture of Filipino community in health care, service and entrepreneurship in Canada.
