Solenn Heussaff issues statement after 'poverty porn' accusations

Solenn Heussaff issued a brief statement after netizens called her exhibit announcement as "insensitive" and screaming of "privilege," and accused her of engaging in poverty porn.

"Clearly people are quick to judge," Solenn said in a Facebook post. "I'll just share the story when people can see the complete exhibit," she said.

The photo posted on Wednesday showed Solenn posing with her painting, which was setup in a street with urban poor housing.

"This exhibit expresses my love, appreciation and hope for our country and our people," the actress wrote in the caption.

Netizens, however, tagged the photo as "insensitive" and screaming of "privilege."

One Twitter user said that this is not the first time Solenn participated in the "poverty porn challenge," sharing her artworks with the poor as subjects.

According to a CNN article, poverty porn involves the use of "exploitative imagery of people living in destitute conditions."

Solenn later took down the Facebook post in question, but it's still up on her Instagram account.

The "Kundiman" 3D exhibit will run from March 26 to April 24 at the Modeka Art Gallery in Makati.

Solenn gave a teaser last week when she was doing the "final touches" for the exhibit.
