PBA player JC Intal’s art exhibit features 2 years of hard work

PBA player JC Intal is a man of many talents.

Aside from being a professional basketball player, Intal quietly does painting on the side.

During the launch of his first solo exhibit titled “Rookie Mistake” at J Studio in Makati City Thursday, Intal said his paintings were inspired by the people he loves the most — his two daughters Lucia and Carmen, his wife Bianca Gonzalez, his whole family and of course, basketball.

He said this exhibit is a product of two years of hard work and passion, but it is a project he did not expect.

“It’s unreal. I have no words. Para akong na-draft ulit sa PBA,” he told GMA News Online.

Intal, who has been a keycog for the Phoenix Fuel Masters, revealed his passion for painting started in grade school.

However, it got sidetracked after playing basketball during his high school and college days.

Despite being busy with basketball, the former Ateneo Blue Eagle said his passion for art did not go away and still paints during his free time.

He added he and his wife often visit art fairs and spend a lot of time with their artist friends, which made him reunite with his first love.

Intal also said artist Jigger Cruz has been the biggest influence in his art.

“He encouraged me and made me feel I can do anything I want as long as I put my heart into it," he said.

According to his statement, “Rookie Mistake” is an “honest attempt to portray emotions on canvas using heavy textures.”
