Art Fair Philippines 2020 introduces three new sections

Art Fair Philippines 2020 is slated to take place on February 21-23 at The Link  Carpark in Makati City.

There are 61 exhibitors joining the fair, with about 70% Philippine-based and 30% coming from overseas.

There will be a special exhibition of the late award-winning expressionist painter Onib Olmedo, done in cooperation with the artist’s estate, while new works by Rodel Tapaya will be presented by Hublot, the Official Timekeeper of Art Fair Philippines 2020.

Already on its 8th year, the fair is introducing three new sections to its program: ArtFairPh/Open Studios, ArtFairPH/Film, and ArtFairPH/Incubators.

Open Studios will feature a series of workshops facilitated by respected practitioners, including photography (Paco Guerrero), lighting techniques for photographers (Neal Oshima, Mark Nicdao), wooden furniture (Benji Reyes) and a demo on watercolor painting techniques with Claude Tayag, among others.

ArtFairPH/Open Studios aims to complement ArtFairPH/Talks, which this year will feature a panel on award-winning expressionist painter Onib Olmedo (Elmer Borlongan and Allan Cosio are speakers, moderated by Carlomar Daoana), and a talk by Italian ambassador to the Philippines Giorgo Guglielmino.

The Film section meanwhile acknowledges cinema’s evolution and celebrates the last 100 years of Philippine cinema. Curated by Erwin Romulo, Philbert Dy, and Teddy Co, ArtFairPH/Film will screen a selection of movies that will showcase the diversity of Philippine cinema.

There will also be ArtFairPh/Incubators, where creative spaces outside the mainstream gallery format will participate. These include art/n23, Giatay, Limbo, Loadnadito projects, Project 20, and Signum.

The Projects section this year will feature new commissions in the form of interactive and thought-provoking installations by under-the-radar Filipino visual artists including Rodil Joe Geraldo, Neil Pasilan, and Gene Paul Martin, while ArtFairPh/Photo will highlight the works of Filipino Contemporary artist.

This year’s edition of the fair will have a special cultural exchange project with the Embassy of Italy in Manila, as well as the 10 Days of Art Initiative complementing the entire fair. — with reports from Rachelle Medina/LA, GMA News
