Tanggol Wika to file petition before SC anew vs removal of Filipino, Panitikan in college core subjects
After their motion for reconsideration has been denied, Tanggol Wika is set to file again a petition before the Supreme Court (SC) against the exclusion of Filipino and Panitikan in college core subjects.
In a Facebook Live video posted on Sunday night, Tanggol Wika convenor David Michael San Juan said they will file a second motion for reconsideration to reinstate the temporary restraining order (TRO) against the implementation of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 20.
Under the CHED memorandum, Filipino and Panitikan subjects will be no longer mandatory to be offered in colleges and universities.
“Kung ang Korte Suprema ay hindi natin nakumbinse sa unang motion for reconsideration, pipilitin nating magsampa ng second motion for reconsideration,” San Juan said.
The SC en banc recently denied their petition to reconsider its October 9 decision last year, when they lifted the TRO against the CMO 20.
According to Tanggol Wika, CMO 20 was unconstitutional.
The Constitution stated that Filipino and Panitikan should be included in the curriculum of education institutions, but according to the SC, it was not specified in which educational level it must be taught.
“Thus, CMO 20 did not violate the Constitution when it merely transferred these subjects as part of the curriculum of primary and secondary education, “the SC said in the resolution.
San Juan lamented over some media reports which highlighted that their petition was ‘denied with finality.’ He clarified that they could still file another motion for reconsideration before the SC.
“Hindi pa tapos ang isyung ito. At maaari pang mag-second motion for reconsideration ang Tanggol Wika at isa yan sa ikokonsidera nating opsyon,” San Juan said.
“Sa maraming kaso, dininig din ng Korte Suprema ang ikalawang motion for reconsideration kahit sinabi pa nila na may finality na ang kanilang decision,” San Juan added. — LA, GMA News
