'Salubong' commemorated by Catholic faithful on Easter

Filipino Catholics marked Easter Sunday, the commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with the traditional "Salubong" before dawn.

The said tradition is the reenactment of the supposed meeting of the Virgin Mary with the risen Christ.

An image of the Virgin Mary wearing a black veil is featured in a procession, and an angel portrayed by a child takes the veil off as the image of the Christ approaches.

At the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City, a child playing the role of an angel was hoisted by harness to enable her to reach the veil and take it off the Virgin Mary's image.

In Tagkawayan, Quezon, little girls dressed as angels showered flower petals as the veil of the Virgin Mary was taken off.
