Kidlat Tahimik receives Prince Claus Award in Amsterdam
Father of Philippine Independent Cinema Kidlat Tahimik, born Eric De Guia, was one of the seven recipients of the Prince Claus Award, granted by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He received the honor in the presence of Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Prince Claus Fund Board Chair His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn presented the award to the laureates on December 6, 2018.
De Guia was recognized by the jury for his "unconventional artworks" that "raise awareness about environmental issues."
The award is named in honor of Prince Claus of the Netherlands and is given to an individual whose work has created a positive impact on society and culture.
De Guia was honored alongside Market Photo Workshop (South Africa), Dada Masilio (South Africa), Adong Judith (Uganda), Marwa al-Sabouri (Syria), Eka Kurniawan (Indonesia), and O Menelick 2 Ato (Brazil).
De Guia was inducted to the Philippines’ Order of National Artists on October 24, 2018. — AT, GMA News
