National Quincentennial Committee lauds history in Catriona Gray's costume

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray's national costume has been turned over to the National Quincentennial Committee (NCQ) and is currently on display indefinitely at the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in Manila.

The NCQ has commended Catriona and her team for incorporating Philippine history in the intricate costume. It is their hope that the interest generated by her win will inspire the public to learn more about Philippine culture.

National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chair Rene Escalante on Friday expressed his reverence for Catriona's ambitious attempt to represent the colorful history of the country from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

"We really admire the decision of Catriona Gray team for choosing this costume as the national costume of our Miss Universe," he told the press.

Catriona Gray became the Philippines' fourth Miss Universe on December 17. She was crowned by South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in Thailand. — AT, GMA News
