Catriona Gray's national costume to be displayed in several museums
The coronation night is days away, yet already Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray is a winner.
Mishaps aside, her national costume for the 67th Miss Universe pageant has earned her overwhelming praise for its ambitious attempt to represent the cultural diversity of the Philippines.
The National Quincentennial Committee on Monday lauded Catriona and her team for "capturing the thousands of years history and heritage of the Filipino people."
On Wednesday, the committee wrote a letter addressed to Catriona, inviting her to the unveiling of the Philippine Quincentennial Commemorations logo on December 21.
The committee also expressed interest in displaying the national costume in the Museum of Philippine Social History in Angeles City, the Museum of Philippine Political History in Malolos, Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, and Museo ni Jose Rizal in Fort Santiago.
Catriona shared a copy of the letter via Instagram stories, where she declared, "This is surreal."
The costume is loaded with symbolism. Catriona explained that the brass that bordered the parol is made in Apalit and is inspired by designs from the Philippine Baroque Churches that were declared as UNESCO Heritage Sites.
Her body suit shows the tattoos worn by Visayan warriors and she drew from the Inaul, Yakan, Maranao, B'laan, Bagobo, Tausug and T'nalak for her accessories. — AT, GMA News
